“In the fading winter light, Rose and Karensa stand silently on the headland, blankets pulled tight around their shoulders. The men have been late before, but never this late…”
WAR STORY
Vocal Score with Accompanying Narrative
WAR STORY is a selection of choral works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, interwoven with an original narrative that tells the story of a family in Cornwall during the First and Second World Wars.
The story to be performed by a narrator during the concert combines historical fact with the echoes of local tales and its themes of grief, joy and courage are brought to life in these wonderful Vaughan Williams compositions:
The Spring Time of the Year
The Dark Eyed Sailor
The Garden of Proserpine
Just as the Tide was Flowing
The Call
On the Beach at Night Alone
Let All the World in Every Corner Sing
The classic English voice of Martin Muncaster ('Pathe News', BBC, ChoraLine Narrator) together with the recording expertise of Lloyd Silverthorne (BBC, ChoraLine Producer) have combined their talents to produce a wonderful recording of the War Story narrative:
